OK, in this video I will take you through the basics of doing a wrapped Heelside Frontside 360. Doing any spin wrapped eliminates the handle pass which can lead to some lengthy grabs or maybe some grabbed variations that would be very difficult if the handle pass was still present. Wrapped spins are also an alternative way for a rider to get used to doing a spin without the pass. Without the pass the rider can get used to the rotation and landing and then eventually return to the handle pass version with more comfort and success.
To set up for the wrapped HS FS 360 stand next to the wake and get into the wrapped position. Do this by letting the handle out a bit with both hands and then pulling really hard straight towards your waist to create slack so you can pass the normal handle behind your back on the right side of your body for regular footers and the left side for goofy footers. Pass the normal handle behind your back to your front hand while at the same time putting your back hand on the smaller handle or wrapped handle. Position the normal handle behind your back so your front hand is against your lead hip. Your back arm should be bent and flexed so you can keep tension on the rope. This also helps you keep slack in the rope between the normal handle and the wrapped handle. We'll get to that in just a second.
Now that you are set up in the wrapped position, you should take some time to get used the edge out. The edge out in this position can be somewhat difficult since you are wrapped in the handle. Edge out away from the wakes a few times to get used to the awkward wrapped position without approaching the wake or doing the 360. After getting comfortable with the set up edge out you will have to also get used to the edge in. As you start your approach the wrapped position will try to spin you frontside in the water. You can counter this by moving the smaller wrapped handle towards the wake or your front hip and more towards the center of your body or waist. This should hold you in the Heelside edging position without getting pulled out.
Before approaching the wake it is important to get into a seated position just like you would for any wake to wake spin so you can use a lot of legs at the wake. As you start your approach towards the wake try to keep slack in between the wrapped handle and the normal handle. If the rope is tight between the two handles you will get pulled over as you leave the wake and this can cause you to miss the grab or spin off axis. If you hold slack in the rope on the approach and up the wake you can better control your position as you leave the wake and you won't get pulled until you release the small wrapped handle. This control also helps you get the grab.
As you ride through the top of the wake stand tall to pop the trick straight up. Since you are wrapped you don't have to spin the trick off the wake. Just do a wake jump. Concentrate more on just pulling your knees up to get the grab and the rope will initiate the spin. If you spin off the wake the rope will pull you too much into the spin and you will chase the grab or miss the grab. As you let go of the smaller handle to reach for the grab the spin will start.
As the rope pulls and spins you through the 360 try to spot the landing side wake. When you spot the landing side wake stop your head at that point. Allow your lower body and board to finish the rotation first while your head stays back to ensure that you don't over rotate the 360. Release the grab, land back against the rope and then try to edge out of the trick on your Heelside edge to land stable and controlled.
Alright, that about wraps for this video.
