A Melan Grab is performed during any trick when the front hand grabs between the bindings on the Heelside edge of the board. This is one of the first front hand grabs that riders perform due how easy it can be to reach the grab.
- When reaching for this grab be sure to grab between the bindings. Riders often don’t reach far enough behind their front binding and end up grabbing between the front binding and the nose of the board on the heelside edge. This is not a melan grab and is considered to be bad style.
- Another issue that riders tend to have with this grab is that they tend to rotate frontside when trying to do just a Melan on a wake to wake jump. To prevent this rotation from happening, be sure to move your back hand that has the handle across your body when grabbing.
Add Some Style
It is considered to be good style and good habit to grab directly in the middle between the bindings or even more towards the back binding. For even more style, poke out the grab by making the front leg totally straight and bending the back leg while grabbing Melan.
