Heelside Backside 180

Description

The trick requires a Heelside approach and the rider spins backside or by turning his back toward the boat first while airing off a wake, roller, ramp, rail or Ollie pop.

History

As spinning became more prominent in wakeboarding this trick was labeled as a “blind” spin because riders turn their head away from the boat. This is obviously not the correct naming convention for the trick and it was quickly replaced with the proper label in respect to its roots; surfing, skateboarding and snowboarding. Now, even though it’s just a 180, the Heelside Backside 180 has a reputation for being a difficult and very technical trick when paired with a grab and a poke or also if the rider takes it big and lands way out in the flats. For some riders it can be harder than landing some spins and flips that should be after it as far as typical progression is concerned.
